In distance learning environments, where forums can be a tool of class interaction, student and instructor participation, debating and cooperation are crucial to develop critical thinking and achieve an active and successful learning process. Harold Pinter’s The Applicant is a revue sketch that employs everyday language, such as proper nouns and forms of address, as part of fictional character (and actor) conversations.

In translating theatre, such distinction might alter the translation approach and the language that is used. Regarded as “prefabricated orality”, dramatic language is constructed and ultimately adapted for its final representation.

In this line, theatrical language is often polarized whether the play is to be published or staged. The language used in theatre may vary depending on the final representation of the play. Communication is achieved through words and paralinguistic features that continuously add emphasis, convey nuances or even conceal meanings. The combination of verbal and non-verbal language plays an essential role in theatrical representations. Based on a theorical support about the character in narrative, the techniques of the characterization of the corresponding maids will be examined, in order to characterize the guidelines of a structural and stylistic evolution of the writer, so that it will be possible to outline this specific category of character. Three novels are analysed: Nada, La isla y los demonios and La insolación.
